5/27/23. Had a great time at the opening night last night. An idea I had when I started conceiving how I wanted to set up my space was to write a program to figure it out for me. That ended becoming a whole sequence of programs to get to what looks like quite a simple piece. I ended up learning about, and trying, all sorts of interesting things that were pretty new to me (2d bin packing problems, genetic algorithms, particle swarm optimizations, simulated annealing, and others). In the end I sorted through 400+ outputs from my 6 favourite arrangements, and then set up the space according to the final choice. It may not be flashy, but it's the exploratory aspect of art that keeps me going, and I had a lot of fun making it. :)
